Transform your home with smart lights — from your first bulb to a fully automated lighting system. We cover bulbs, strips, switches, and everything between.

Hue remains the most reliable smart bulb ecosystem. The Hue Bridge is required for more than 10 bulbs, but it enables Matter integration, voice control, and the full Hue app experience. Hue bulbs are slightly more expensive but rock-solid stable.
Best bulbs: Hue White and Color Ambiance ($25-30/bulb) for full color, Hue White Ambiance ($15-20/bulb) for budget smart white.
LIFX bulbs connect directly to WiFi — no hub needed. Each bulb is individually addressable with millions of colors. LIFX Clean除菌 bulbs even have antimicrobial lighting. The trade-off: WiFi bulbs can add network congestion in large installs.
Best for: Renters who can't install hubs, or small setups under 15 bulbs.
Matter-certified bulbs (from Philips Hue, Nanoleaf, Eve, and others) work out of the box with any Matter controller — SmartThings, Home Assistant, Apple Home, Google Home. No brand-locked ecosystems.
Best for: Future-proofing. Buy once, use with any platform.
Living rooms need tunable white for daytime and warm amber for movie nights. We recommend 4-6 Hue White Ambiance bulbs in overhead fixtures + Hue Lightstrip Plus behind the TV. Set up scenes: "Movie Night" (warm white 10%), "Reading" (cool white 80%), "TV Time" (dim with bias lighting).
Bedroom lighting should mimic natural daylight — cool white in morning, warm amber at night. Hue White Ambiance bulbs with the "Wake Up" automation are life-changing. Avoid colored bulbs in bedrooms; the novelty wears off fast.
Under-cabinet LED strips (Hue Lightstrip Plus or Govee) provide glare-free task lighting. Combine with overhead Hue bulbs on a separate switch. Use cool white (5000K+) for food prep, warm white for casual dining.
Smart switches solve one problem: dumb bulbs. If you have recessed lighting with 12 bulbs hardwired together, you can't individual smart-bulb each one. Smart switches make those dumb bulbs smart.
Casareta switches don't need a neutral wire (in most installations), which is a huge advantage in older homes. The Lutron bridge enables integration with everything. Rock-solid reliability, premium price.
Kasa smart switches are inexpensive and work over WiFi without a hub. The app is decent, and they integrate with Home Assistant easily. Watch for firmware updates after installation.
LED lightstrips are the secret weapon of great smart lighting. Behind a headboard, under kitchen cabinets, around a TV, along stair risers — they add depth and ambiance that bulbs can't match.
Smart lighting only shines when automated. Here are the automations we recommend everyone set up:
